AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Design): Graphic Design is a disciplinary practice of providing a solution to a design problem expressed with visual and text. This form of visual communication may include images, typography or graphic elements. The work involves arranging type, form, and images to convey the intended relevant message. The visual communication work can be done at various scale for the purpose of either commercial, educational, cultural, or political.
Graphic design is also the process of visual communication that is involved in problem-solving through the use of images, typography, and illustration. This form of visual communication includes creating and combining images, text, and forms, to give visual representations of ideas and messages. They use typography, visual arts, and page layout techniques to create visual compositions. This is according to Wikipedia.
Graphic design may be referred to the process of creating a visual composition to communicate (graphic design process) and the end visual composition forming the product (design).
The common uses of graphic design include corporate design (logos and branding), editorial design (magazines, newspapers, and books), advertising, web design, communication design, product packaging and signage.
